Two exams take place each year: an intermediate exam in June and a technical exam in January.

Annual exams in Pre-College children play a crucial role in the development of musical skills. The technical exam is a key component that aims to assess dexterity, articulation and overall technical mastery of the instrument. Through targeted exercises and musical challenges, students are encouraged to take their instrumental skills to a higher level. This examination not only promotes technical virtuosity, but also boosts the young musicians’ self-confidence as they can see their progress by mastering more demanding techniques.

The annual major subject examination focuses on the overall picture of musical development. Aspects such as musical expression, interpretation and creativity are assessed. This exam provides a holistic assessment of musical ability and allows teachers to target the needs of each individual child.

Together, the technical exam and the major subject exam form a balanced and comprehensive evaluation in pre-college music education. These annual exams serve as an important milestone in the musical education of students and lay the foundation for their further development as musicians.
